A Weekend Getaway To The Winter Capital Of Uttarakhand

Published Categorized as Travel

Being a travel buff, visiting different places has always been a crucial part of my life.

So to take a break from my monotonous work-life in Delhi, I go on a new adventure every two to three months with my family or friends that makes me feel lucky to be alive.

Since Dehradun has always been my dream destination, I planned a quick getaway with my friends during a long weekend off in December to witness some jaw-dropping views that the ‘Winter Capital of Uttarakhand’ offers.

To reach on time and catch the morning sun, we booked an early morning flight to Dehradun.

Nestled amidst the dense Doon Valley in Uttarakhand, Dehradun is undoubtedly the most surreal place I witnessed that offers a serene escape in the foothills of the Shivalik Range.

As we were a group of six friends, we booked two premium airport cabs in Dehradun to reach our hotel.

Soon after checking in, we headed straight to explore this hidden gem that proudly boasts of a picturesque backdrop of the Garhwal Himalayas.

Here is a brief overview of some mesmerizing tourist destinations we explored on our weekend getaway to Dehradun.

Majestic views at Sahastradhara

The literal meaning of the word Sahastradhara is “Thousand fold spring”, situated at a distance of 14 km from the main Dehradun city.

Well-known for its natural caves and waterfall, this place delighted us with its old-world charm, lush green surroundings, and sprawling meadows.

After speaking to a few locals here, we came to know that Sahastradhara is also famous for its therapeutic and medicinal values.

Numerous water pools surrounding this place with water dripping from limestone stalactites make it the perfect place to become one with nature.

Unforgettable trekking experience at Nag Tibba

After spending some time at Sahastradhara, we decided to go on a fun-filled trekking expedition at Nag Tibba.

Amongst the most exciting excursion near Dehradun, Nag Tibba is the highest trek trail in the Garhwal Himalayas that offers alluring vistas of sunset and sunrise.

Further being the home to diverse flora and fauna, this trek gave us the most enthralling experience that we all will cherish for a lifetime.

Stunning natural vistas at Lacchiwalla

With panoramic cottages nestled amidst resplendent greenery and a babbling stream, Lacchiwalla is a well-known tourist spot in Dehradun.

The small brook has transformed this spot into a natural water park, where we went boating in the water stream.

After our boating adventure, we visited the adjoining lush garden, surrounding the stream with monkeys hanging about, making the place more lively.

A visit to the famous Robber’s Cave

Famously known as Guchhu Pani, Robber’s Cave is a hidden treasure situated in Dehradun.

A former dwelling of Lord Shiva, this place welcomed us with its deep underground cold springs and a 10-meter-high waterfall cascading inside, giving us an enthralling experience.

Solitude at the Dakpathar town

A quaint town sitting on the banks of the Yamuna river, Dakpathar was the last place we visited on our Dehradun getaway.

With dense woodlands and sprawling gardens, the area is not only endowed with untouched beauty, but its proximity to the Yamuna Hydel Scheme makes it the ideal place for bird watching.

Apart from being a picnic spot, this place is perfect for nature lovers and solitude seekers like me.

From the natural waterfalls, caves, and enthralling trekking trails, there is a lot that the ‘Winter Capital of Uttarakhand’ has to offer.

So if you are looking for a quick weekend getaway near Delhi, I suggest you visit Dehradun and explore this majestic city in the foothills of the Himalayas by booking affordable cabs in Dehradun.
